The Latino Partnership for Conservative Principles wants you to know that “the most dangerous place for a Latino is in the womb.” That’s the message that is being shared on jumbo billboards across Los Angeles — an attempt to convince the Latino community that they are under attack. There are similar anti-choice billboards aimed at the African-American community in eleven states.
Alfonso Aguilar, the leader of The Latino Partnership, told The Daily Caller, “It’s clear that Latinos are being targeted by organizations that promote abortion like Planned Parenthood. Many of their clinics are in Latino neighborhoods and communities.” Sadly, the off-target rhetoric and the erroneous assertion that this community is being “targeted,” is just the beginning of a broader anti-choice attempt to divide and conquer. Just this year, eight bills that deal with race and choice have been filed in five states, and enacted in one: Arizona. The Arizona law criminalizes the doctor and holds him/her accountable for the reasons why the woman is seeking care. If the provider has any reason to believe the woman is choosing abortion care based on race or gender, he/she must not provide the care or face a felony. Oh, Arizona. First they profile us for papers, then they profile us for access to legal medical services. That’s the real danger.
